More Tales Of Wells Fargo

Wells Fargo Bank is the plaintiff in 800 civil actions filed in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court since January 1, 2007, according to the court’s database. Most if not all of these actions are, of course, foreclosures.

As far as I can tell, no other lender on the county’s 2005 “top ten” list comes close to this level of foreclosure activity.* Countrywide Home Loans, another big national subprime lender, has filed 224 in the same period. Third Federal Savings, the single biggest local mortgage lender, has filed 140.

This morning I checked out eight houses owned by Wells Fargo in the general vicinity of my Brooklyn Centre home. (They’re on Woodbridge, Marvin, Forestdale, West 41st, West 44th and West 45th.) According to the County Auditor’s records, all eight have been taken over since March, and four have transferred to Wells Fargo since the middle of June.
