Callahan’s Cleveland Diary

I didn’t plan to take a vacation from Cleveland Diary for the last week and a half. I just figured I’d take July 4th weekend off to find a WordPress theme I liked, tweak the layout, stick the appropriate last entry on the old site, and start posting again Monday or Wednesday, at the latest.

Things didn’t go quite the way I figured. I’m not going to bore you with the details — let’s just say WordPress isn’t as easy to tweak as you might have heard. But hey, it’s all a learning experience, right?

So finally, after three years at cleveland_diary.blogspot.com — and ten days wandering in the PHP-newbie wilderness — Cleveland Diary has officially arrived at its new address. I’m going to keep the old site up, with its archive links handy on the sidebar here. (Importing the whole thing created more problems than it solved.) But as of today, this is the place.

There are three benefits I expect from the move, right away. First, unlike my old blogspot template, posts on the same day will display in the order they’re posted on my main page — most recent first, like everyone else’s. (This weirdness at blogspot has been driving me a little crazy for three years.) Second, the blog’s title won’t lose its headline formatting when viewed with Firefox or Mozilla. Third and most important, this site’s RSS feed should work properly.

Maybe I’ll figure out some other cool things to do with WordPress eventually. But for now, those three improvements are enough for me.
