Number one again
Well, the Census finally got around to publishing the income and poverty estimates from its 2005 American Community Survey.
And surprise! Cleveland is back on top of the poverty list, edging out the 2004 champion, Detroit.
Okay, kids, just for the record, here are the Cleveland “percent of individuals living in poverty” numbers “estimated” by the ACS for the last five years:

It’s been quite a roller coaster ride, hasn’t it? Almost makes you think there might be something funny about the numbers.
I can hardly wait to see the front page of the PD tomorrow.

Sounds like it’s time for another Summit! Or maybe a committee or panel or hiring a consultant or……

The PD front page surely didn’t disappoint. That eye-catching photo of the Jesus image behind the soup kitchen meal was about as loaded down with complicated freight as a front-page newspaper image can be. It played wonderfully into the prejudices of managing editor Tom O’Hara’s by-now-infamous reference to his neighbor’s average-man reaction to the paper. Only in his presumably exurban neighborhood, average is a pretty relative term.
