Cleveland Charter Review Commission named…

… and I’m on it.

No, really. Here’s City Council’s press release. The appointments were approved at the Council meeting last night. First meeting is Thursday morning.

Charter Review public notice:

In accordance with Section 200-1 of the City of Cleveland Charter, Cleveland City Council must appoint 15 Cleveland electors to the Charter Review Commission by no later than February 1, 2008. These commission members, within six months, are to make recommendations for proposed changes to the City Charter, which are reviewed by Council. Those that are approved are placed before the voters.

The Charter Review process is an opportunity to streamline outdated codes and procedures and to take a close look at they way the City operates. Commission members are responsible for considering changes to the Charter, which is the City’s governing document.

I appreciate being nominated by my Councilman, Brian Cummins, and picked by Council President Sweeney and the rest of the members. Thanks, everyone!

As the press release says, I was also a Commission member last time, twenty years ago. That was interesting but pretty inconsequential. This time could be different.
